On Memorial Day, we remember and give thanks to the brave men and women who fought and died in war. Traditionally, we celebrate with fireworks, parades, neighborhood marches, trips to the beach, or picnics and BBQ’s with family and friends. It’s the unofficial start of summer in America!
While many of these activities aren’t possible due to the COVID-19 outbreak, you can still get creative, and come up with fun and easy ways to celebrate Memorial weekend while maintaining social distance!
Teach Your Kids the Meaning of the Holiday
We sometimes get caught up in the party, but should remember it’s a day to honor the brave U.S. soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Plan Your Own Family Parade & Decorate Your Bicycles
Your town’s parade might be cancelled, but you can still deck out your bikes in red, white and blue, and host a mini parade in your own neighborhood.
Ready, Set, Go on a 5k
If you usually sign up for a Memorial Day 5k, you can still hit the pavement. Map a route through your neighborhood, as long as you can maintain social distancing guidelines. Set a goal with your family and friends, and ask them to donate to charitable causes. Then, go, go, go!
Throw an American-Themed BBQ for Your Family at Home
Put out your American flags and other patriotic decorations, create a fun, festive menu, set up the slip-and-slide, sprinklers, water balloons, and get ready for a day of fun in the sun. Of course, grill up those burgers, hot dogs and s’mores.
Coordinate a Block Party with Your Neighbors
You can easily bring your portable grill out into the front yard, and share a social distancing-style BBQ with friends. Just be sure to keep the right boundaries in place.
Make a Patriotic Playlist
Kick off this annual celebration with a fun, patriotic song list with all the American classics, like “God Bless the USA” and “Born in the USA.” Get ready to rock out!
Set Up a Zoom Party
We’ve been getting together with family, friends, business contacts and more thanks to virtual conferencing. Set up a Zoom Meeting, and everyone can BYO-BBQ, and you can enjoy it together.
Stay safe and enjoy the day! Don’t forget to take a moment to honor our heroes!
